Seeing the Future – Television on Your Eyes

Posted on Feb 18th, 2009 at 12:26 pm by in Entertainment, Misc Geek Stuff

I know your mother said it. A hundred times, maybe more. Mine did. “Move away from the TV or your eye’s will rot out!” And I’m sure you, much like I, scooted your butt back reluctantly if only until she left the room. Well, fate is a funny lady, for as many times as my mother told me to move away from that television to prevent my eyes, never once did she tell me I couldn’t put the television on my eyeballs.

In the next fifteen, even ten years, researchers and developers are predicting that they will be able to put a television onto a contact lens, and sell you the corresponding tattoos, so when Meredith Grey from Grey’s Anatomy is crying over lost love, you feel sad. When Ty Pennington (Extreme Home Makeover) is jumping around like a ‘roided up maniac, you feel the urge to jump right along with him.

Miriam Rayman, of the Future Laboratory Consultancy compiled a report on the future of entertainment, which stated:
“We could even get to the point where we’ll be able to immerse ourselves in a football game, making it feel like you’re running alongside your favorite player or berating the ref.’
Cool. Incredibly, wickedly, insanely cool.
Not only that, but you’ll never lose the remote. Blink or wave your hand and the channel will change. I imagine some kinks still have to be worked out to avoid the random station changing that would inevitably follow an Italian woman talking with her hands or your stoner buddy who’s gonna blink a hundred times in a minute.
The future is coming and I can’t wait. Gone are the days of duct taped glasses and coming soon are the days of television implanted in your brain. Skeptics may be hating on the idea, but I say, take that, Mom.
