Rebecca Black and Why I Love the Internet

Posted on Mar 21st, 2011 at 12:55 pm by in Entertainment, I should be working, Social Media

I’m such a shitty blogger I waited until Monday to post about Rebecca Black’s “Friday”. It’s not the song that I love so much *even though the acoustic version is an epic win* but its the response from the Internet. This little girl has stirred up hate in absolutely hilarious 140 character bursts, FaceBook punch lines and from bitter, angry bloggers and she just keeps on going. She’s either oblivious to the nastiness or an absolute genius and will one day own us all. And yeah, the song and video bring sucking to whole new levels, but really? This girl looks like Glee’s Lea Michelle and probably has less Autotune than and episode of Glee or one song by Ke$ha – not to mention fourteen less STD’s. The video quality is only slightly less than Britney Spear’s newest and I’m thinking that piece of work most likely cost a whole lot more. Basically Rebecca Black and her production team half assed a stupid song, became a Comedy Central punch line and got uber famous. And I’m thinking people are just pretending to be pissed because they realise how close it is to the real top 40 we listen to all the time. Oh, and she just beat out the official version of “Born This Way” on YouTube. Suck on that, Gaga.

This summarizes why I love the Internet. Or why I'm incapable of productivity. Either way.

I am absolutely dying to hear the follow up to this smash hit. I hear “Tuesday” is more of a slow ballad and I hope we can just skip ahead a few days and get a sneak peak.

30 million views. 30 effing million views. And she still hasn’t given away the ending – kickin’ in the front seat or sitting in the back seat? Either way, we so excited.
